Hi! Welcome to The Vickery Music Studio blog. My name is Christy Vickery and I teach private piano and flute lessons in the Richardson, Texas area. I have been teaching private lessons since my college days at Oklahoma Baptist University and have just recently made the decision to leave my very loved position at All Saints Catholic School in Dallas where I have taught elementary music and band for 14 years to teach private lessons. The decision was a hard one, but one that will allow me to homeschool my son and enjoy my baby daughter who is due September 20th!
Here is just a little about me and how I got started in music education
I have been playing piano and flute for most of my life. I started piano at 5 and flute at 10 years of age. In college, I pursued a degree in music education and had the wonderful opportunity to perform with the University Band, in special concerts and in recitals. I also earned a spot in the Concerto Aria Competition and Concert 3 times.
After graduation, I began teaching and in 1998 joined the staff at All Saints Catholic School in Dallas. There I taught elementary music and band until 2012. In 2005, I completed additional certification as a Kodaly Music Educator through the UNT/Plano ISD Kodaly program.
Throughout the years, I have played with community bands including the Richardson Communtiy Band and the Metroplex Wind Symphony. Most recently, I was able to perform with the Brookhaven Flute Choir. I have also been able to play with the church orchestras at FBC Carrollton and FBC Richardson.
